About Ahmed Yousef

Who am I?

Husband. Father. Business professional. Consensus builder. Volunteer. Car enthusiast. Democracy lover. Optimist.

On the ballot I’ll appear as Ahmed Yousef, but most people know me simply as “Yousef”.

What are my strengths?

I am disciplined and energetic. I enjoy working in diverse environments, cultures and even time zones. It’s important to me that I conduct myself in an ethical and diplomatic manner and that I respect others’ points of view. A friend once observed me, shovel in hand, doing manual labor and said “You work hard!” My response was “Is there any other way to work?”

What are my passions?

My family and my community. I also enjoy tinkering with cars. Cycling. Being of service to others, Meeting new people. Learning new things.

Born in Egypt, raised in the U.S.
I’ve lived and worked in several countries, including the USA, Egypt, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, and Canada.
I met my wife, Shelley, a Canadian of Irish lineage, in 2002. She was teaching in Abu Dhabi and I was working for the Emirates Centre for Strategic Studies and Research. We married in 2003 and moved to Maple Ridge in 2010.
Children: Twin daughters and one son.

Master of Arts – International Relations – Bircham International University
Bachelor of Arts – Political Science – The American University in Cairo

Working from my home office allows me the freedom and flexibility to service clients in several different time zones while playing an active role in my children’s parenting.
My company, Beutler Systems Consulting, specializes in international procurement.

My introduction to working with the City of Maple Ridge was through an Economic Development Office contract to research, analyze, and present findings and recommendations to mayor and council on home-based businesses.

The work I do today draws upon a network of contacts and affiliates I developed working for diverse interests, primarily government, in several countries. This included postings with the US Embassy, the government of Kuwait and the Emirates. Much of my work is related to increasing trade, organizing international delegations and conducting research and analysis. I also worked extensively with regional and international media organizations and handled portfolios related to defense and intelligence.

Since arriving in Maple Ridge in 2010, I have been an active volunteer in the community. Among the groups I have been affiliated with are Scout Canada, Hope for Freedom Mat Program and Operation Red Nose.

Other volunteer affiliations include:

Ridge Meadows South Asian Cultural Society
Canadian Blood Services
Islamic Society of Ridge Meadows
Newcomers Advisory Council
Steering committee: Building Interfaith Bridges
Translator: Supporting the Arabic-speaking community throughout the lower mainland.
